The Certificate of Training will also show completion of 36 Professional Development Hours and is awarded upon successful completion of this course. Successful completion is determined by attendance and participation in all lecture, field, and laboratory sessions.

In this 4-day course, students learn to identify and delineate wetlands in accordance with the Federal Wetland Delineation Manual, Regional Supplements, and additional regulatory guidance. The course provides participants with the background necessary to identify wetlands and determine their boundaries for permitting under Sections 404 and 401 of the Clean Water Act or for avoidance or minimization of wetland impacts. This course satisfies the requirements for "basic delineation" training as specified by the Corps of Engineers and certification programs in many states.

Participants are introduced to wetland plants, hydric soils, and wetland hydrology, as well as identification and delineation techniques that stress field indicators and boundary determinations.

Field exercises are conducted to complement all classroom instruction. There is also class discussion of the effect that Supreme Court decisions have had on jurisdictional wetland determinations. Participants receive a Certificate of Training, in accordance with Corps of Engineers requirements, upon successful completion of the course.
